Hi, I’m Jo…

Jo Russell - Bio

My first camera was a 35mm Cosina, well actually, my first camera was my brothers Cosina – stolen! He was given it for his 13th birthday, so me being a curious younger sister, I wanted to know what it was all about and within a year I had successfully nabbed it as my own! I used that sturdy little camera to see me through all of my educational qualifications and it wasn’t until I had finished my photography BA(Hons) that I switched my kit over to digital – and Ive never looked back.

I love taking pictures of people. I love to see the world from different perspectives, so I find it interesting to meet new people, hear their stories, get to know them and tell their unique story in an authentic way.

I find the world and people in it so beautiful, and I feel honoured to be asked to be there at people’s special occasions and capture it for them.

What I’m up to…

Currently I lead a team within Chiko Photography, shooting and editing, as well as training our team of photographers.

Being part of the Chiko Photography team has accelerated the growth of my knowledge and experience, allowing clients to honour me with covering their special events and weddings, at home in London, throughout the UK and all over the globe.

Everyone’s story is unique…

My philosophy and ethos is - Your story, artistically told, for you and generations to come.

What’s exciting about each shoot is that every single one is different. Everyone responds to a camera differently, everyone brings a range of emotions to their shoot, and I believe it’s my job to observe, capture and curate.

Why I love it…

I have never had a real job, and I have no plans to start now!

It’s an honour to photograph important milestones, celebrations and achievements, as I know my work will be cherished for years to come.

Whenever I go back to mum’s house we usually end up all gathered around a photo album, reminiscing about good times. Remarking on how cute we were as kids, poking fun at fashion mistakes (everyone else’s…), showing my niece and nephew what fun we got up to before they came along and remembering the faces we don’t get to see anymore.

I know how important pictures are in my life and love that I get to give that joy to others.
